BOSTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Two U.S. studies say Pfizer's painkiller Celebrex can slow the recurrence of polyps in the colon for those at a higher risk of developing colon cancer.

Dr. Robert L. By Julie Schmit Two years after safety concerns bloodied and bruised the arthritis painkiller market, Pfizer's Celebrex is making a comeback. Annual sales are expected to top $2 billion this year after falling to $1.7 billion last year. Sales were at $3.3 billion in 2004.

An international team of scientists reports that a single 400-milligram daily dose of celecoxib, commonly called Celebrex. and manufactured by Pfizer, significantly reduced recurrence of adenomas, or pre-malignant colon tumors - within three years of previous adenoma removal.
