For many years, people who suffered from fibromyalgia not only had to endure their mysterious, debilitating symptoms, but public skepticism, as well. Their ailment was often dismissed by health care providers. Family and friends sometimes thought they were faking.

A Knoxville doctor has pleaded guilty to conspiring to illegally distribute 30,000 tablets of the powerful opiate-based painkiller OxyContin.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that causes widespread pain and tenderness throughout the body. A new study, published in The Journal of Pain, shows that fibromyalgia is associated with central nervous system abnormalities evidenced by patients' elevated sensitivity to auditory and pressure sensations.

Dr. David Kerwin of Modesto surrendered his medical license, effective Friday, to settle state Medical Board charges of unnecessary and excessive prescribing of narcotic pain medications to patients, including two who died from drug overdoses.

That Douglas Keith Stenger was found dead in Ronald Lee Campbell’s living room didn’t keep Campbell from continuing to illegally sell the prescription medication that caused his death, according to North Middleton Township police.
